One can temporarily operate the headlamps while the fog lamps are on by using the headlamp flash function on the turn signal stalk. I’ve done this on occasion when I’ve needed additional illumination while driving with the fog lamps on. I used the headlamp flasher while taking this photo.

You should definitely get the correct switch. The center instrument panel folds down and the wiring is accessible, so you don’t need to be a contortionist to get at it. The wiring detail is a bit complicated, but if you are hiring an electrics guy then he should be able to sort it out. I can send a photo of my switch wiring if needed. Cheers!
