[jag-news] Jaguars racing in GT3 class

Although not a factory effort, Jaguars will be racing in the FIA GT3
EURO class this year, courtesy of Apex Motorsport, UK. They will be
campaigning a trio of specially prepared XKRs. No drivers have been
announced as of yet, but the first championship round takes place at
Silverston on the 5/6th of May. A non-championship round will take
place in the form of a support race in Melbourne on March 18th.

At the time of the programmes announcement in September, Stuart Dyble,
Jaguar Board Director and Vice President, Communications and Public
Affairs, Premier Automotive Group and Ford of Europe, said, We welcome
this initiative which will result in production Jaguar sportscars being
seen once again on race circuits across Europe. We have just launched
the all new Jaguar XKR road car, and GT3 is the natural race series in
which to compete.

This will be the first major racing effort since the American Trans-Am
series cancelled last year.

The cars themself were revealed at the Autosport International show at
the NEC today.
