Left hand front window regulator

Hello ,

Regulator/Lifter on a series 3.

What exactly are you looking for, do you want to sell one or buy one?

HI thanks for the reply, I want to install one, have spent hours trying
to install it, just when I think I’m getting somewhere the whole system
virtually collapses and I’m back to the start.

Does that mean you are working inside the door, Alan…?

**,

Yes Frank, I am replacing the regulator/lifter.

I spent a whole weekend trying to fit the right hand drivers door (Australia) then my neighbour who hadn’t seen me all weekend called over and fitted it in a matter of minutes. You will find it fits better if your window glass is half open and you aren’t being to gentle with it. I thought my neighbour was going to bust it but he got it in on his second attempt. Always be a good neighbour.

What was the original problem that required the work, Alan…?

I was replacing the rubber conduit/grommet which carries the wiring from
the external passenger ( Australia ) mirror.
The window regulator and motor needed to be taken out to allow access,
that was the easy part :)))))))).

I gave it another go today and all I got was totally peed off and
frustrated, its booked in tomorrow to be put back in by my Jag mechanic.

Thanks for your interest Frank.

Hi Frank,

Thought I’d let you know, I’m just back from my Jag workshop, regulator is
back in, still took the mechanic 1 hour to fit as well as a lot of
profanities and a few bruised fingers, I think it all gets down to the way
you hold your tongue :))))))).

Cost me $100.00 AU but worth it.

Cheers Alan.

No shame in getting professional help, Alan - sometimes it is better to hurt you wallet than any part of your body…

Alan,

some years ago my driver’s door window lost its countenance when I rolled it down one summer night around 9 p.m. I suppose the glass stuck in the felts and the pressure of the rubber in the lower rail had vanished a bit over the decades, so the lower rail moved down while the glass remained up, and only upon repeated operation fell down into the door.

So I had to return - almost two hours drive - with an open window and - as I didn’t have a locked garage available - fix the window on the spot. Starting work around midnight I was done around half past three a.m. As I didn’t fully understand the problem I pulled the window lifter mechanism … no need to tell you how hard it was to get it back in. I loved the beer after though …

Ah Jochen, sounds like you’ve got a series 2 with manual windows,
unfortunately I had to contend with the electric motor which made my
problem all the more difficult, but hopefully never again. hahaha.

Cheers. Alan.

Nope. Electric windows and I undid the mimic including the spring part.
No fun to reinstall … The only good thing was I undid and refitted in
one go, so I was fully aware how everything was located and how I had
gotten it all out.

Good luck

Jochen

You have done yourself proud Jochen , considering you did it in the middle
of the night.

Alan.

No, I don’t think so … many words that usually shouldn’t pass your lips lost in the process …

Good luck

Jochen
