Hi All,
My Beautiful '95 XJS-c can no longer shift. My Mechanic said the Shift Control Cable is broken and needs to be replaced. The car starts, but doesn’t go into any gear.
I have tried SNGBarratt.com but they are not able to get me this part.
I’m at a total loss as to finding one for a 30 yr old car.
I am asking for assistance on helping me find this part so that I can get my beauty back on the road.
Catherine - hopefully your mechanic has checked the linkage connector, at the transmission where the cable connects, to verify if that is, or is not, broken - I had this part bent/broken on my 1986 XJS and was told that the cable was bad - Tex.
I have both the linkage connector and cable from a slightly old XJ-S and I believe they are still the same in the later cars. If interested contact me off list.
The Mechanic had given me this as the part number: MHB4830AA.
He normally works on the run of the mill cars so Jaguar is not his forte’ but he does try.
I have been to the local Jaguar dealer and they said they don’t work on cars this old and didn’t have anyone to refer me to.
Currently my car is parked at the mechanics lot and I told him I would try my best to get the part because of the nature and age of my beloved car. Honestly, it would just sicken me if I have to part it out.
I’m not sure what other information I can give to help pinpoint the problem to get the correct part.
It looks like Jagbits does have what you need. His price is $ 225.00
Unfortunately, I don’t think what I have will work for you. My parts are all from V12 cars. You may want to try Welsh Enterprises. They have a good selection of parts cars and may have either an XJS or another 4.0 model that most likely uses the same shift cable.
