My 85 started making a strange squeal that I thought was coming
from the rear brakes or the rear end, so early this A.M. I lifted
the back end and crawled under to investigate. Turning the wheels
forward (either one) produced a squeal. Turning backward or with
tranny in the park position produced no noise. My wife said she
thought the noise was coming from the middle of the car, not the
back, so I had her turn the wheel and moved forward along the drive
shaft, and, sure enough, the noise seemed to be coming from the
tailshaft area. From under the car, it seemed to be a grinding
noise, with the squeal coming on a 360 rotation spot (if that makes
any sense). Could the bearing be bad? It doesn’t leak and tranny
