Mark 10 starting issue

Hi,

Car is starting up but choke will not disengage. High revs stay for 5 minutes and on. Is there a trouble shoot for this?

THanks

a switch is the normal solution, otherwise the thermo device can be replaced.

Somewhere on this forum is a description of taking the thermo, calibrating it in boiling water by bending the bi-metallic strip

The hisser will also stay self engaged if you don’t drive the car.

If you blip the throttle once the car has warmed up a bit the hisser should disengage, if it doesn’t then the Otter switch is likely faulty, or someone has fitted a manual override.

Flicking the ignition off and then back on quickly should cease operation as well.

The starting carb (hisser) is a simple solenoid connected to ignition on one side and grounded to the frame through the Otter switch mounted in the water manifold. If the engine is warm, the bi-metallic element in the Otter switch should open and break the ground connection. If the hisser is still running, simply disconnect the wire to the Otter switch. If it stops the the problem is with the Otter (which can be repaired/adjusted). If it is still running then look for a bypass switch or short in the ground wire going to the Otter.
