MKIV Cigar Lighter

Does anyone have a photo of the correct cigar lighter for a 1948 MKIV? Mine was missing which I guess is pretty typical. It’s one of the only things I have left to find for the car.

Cheers,

Tim

Hi Tim,
My car is August 1948 and I assume that the cigar lighter is original but no guarantees.
Let me know if you need any more photos.
Cheers

Thank you, Darryl.

Now I just have to find one!

I have the socket but not the lighter.

Cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim,

Originals are hard to find but there are reproductions although the diameter is slightly different so you would need to replace you existing housing with that of the repro.

Hello Peter,

I bought one of those for my MKV. I had assumed that the earlier cars had a different version and it seems that is so, sadly. If anyone has a ‘correct’ one they’d be willing to part with that would be wonderful. Miraculously, and due to the kindness of others, I have found many parts that I thought would never appear, so fingers crossed.
Cheers,
Tim

I was chasing one several years ago and the only original one I found at the time was offered by a specialist scrapper of RR/Bentley. The lighter insert alone was for sale for about 160U.S. I didn’t get it.

I bought one of the reproduction units as shown. You cannot tell the difference when in place and there is the advantage of the socket being standard to accept accessories. It will do until I can sort out an original.

Just a hint - if you have one, be careful to avoid it being pilfered when out and about or at events. All high end brands of the era would have the same type and many owners will be in the same situation and not everyone in the fraternity is honest, sadly. The heating element is (was) a replacement part and they suffer filament burn out and fracture of the ceramic shroud. I heard someone in the UK had some old stock of these ends but I have not been able to track this source down so far.
