[modern] CD Trunk Changer for 1994 XJ6, anyone do that?

Dear Listers:
You all know me as the owner of the 1989 XJ40 which is
running great, (apart from a bad rear power
window…but that’s another story).
Now an office pal has asked me a question about adding
a trunk-installed CD changer in his friend’s 1994 XJ6.
Apparently it is set up, complete with controls,
right at the factory radio. What he is asking me now
is what type of system, wiring, and or adaptors should
he be aware of needing in order to make this work?
They already bought an Alpine 6 CD RF changer for the
trunk. I didn’t know if they should have got the RF
system since it was already wired, but the salesman at
The Good Guys insisted that it was correct one to get,
and they only needed an adaptor.
If anyone has had any experience with this type of
thing, we would all be grateful to hear.
Thanks very much,
Cheers

Take the RF one back and get a CHM-S620 changer…plug it into the
provided DIN cable that’s in the trunk and turn it on.

You will probably have to do some bracket fabrication to mount it in the
original spot above the battery as the installation kits are for the OE
deck. The OE deck is just enough different in configuration that the
factory brackets won’t fit.

I got a toolbox and bracket from Steve Gibson at Supercat Spares and
mounted it to the bottom of that in my '91 VDP…the mounting on the '94
will be a little different.

Boy is that felt-lined toolbox ever cool! 8>)

You may find that you’ll want to upgrade the speakers…with new
Infinity speakers in the doors, my factory head unit with the Alpine
changer sounds superb!

Actually, we have a whole section on CD changers in the book. Check it out
