[modern] Michelin Tires vs OEM Pirelli

Seriously, the MXV4 I put on were less expensive, did
not harm the appearance or the handling of the car and
are not noticeably nosier than the P4000s. They seem to
be better in the rain than the Pirellis and while no V
or Z rated tire will be offered with a mileage
guarantee, the Consumer Report report card on the V
rated Michelins put them in the 35 to 40K range before
wear bars beginning to show.

I have no problem recommending Michelins

It has been my observation that Michelins over the years have been the most
round of any tire I’ve seen.

I have also noticed that the way they handle during the first third of
their treadwear is their best.

They always seem to wear like iron and by the time they get 2/3 worn,
they’re almost frightening in any slippery situation.

The best part of them IMHO is that if you watch your sales, you can get a
good tire at a great price.

I also don’t feel that any other than their highest level of tire, which
doesn’t often go on sale often, seem to be a particularly great tire
performance-wise…

Just my observation and opinion, your mileage may vary! 8>)

Just a quick note to tell you that the wife’s 1999 VW Jetta came with
Michelin MXV4s when it was purchased new. The mileage on the car now is
roughly 68,000 miles ON THE ORIGINAL TIRES! You may rightly assume I am very
impressed, as I have never seen tires, especially OE tires, give this kind
of mileage. I will admit that they are currently on the wear bars and will
shortly be replaced but I am still impressed.

I guess I should mention that we have been pretty anal about tire pressures,
alignment, and rotation to equalize wear.

right now, they’ve given 18000 miles of faultless service and still
