[modern] Re: Shocks: Convert or not to Convert--that is the Question

Wayne,

I don’t believe I’ve ever ridden in any Jag with SLS that
was working properly so my impression after converting my
Sovereign [on which the SLS was definitely shot] was that
the ride and handling were transformed - and much better
than any of the other SLS equipped cars I’d driven.
Can’t help you on US prices - but do make sure you buy the
longer springs in with the kit. There is NO substitute. It’s
a relatively easy task to do the conversion [see Haynes for
the procedure] providing you have a heavy duty (i.e. good
quality) spring compressor. [Lots of info in archives]
I fitted Bilstein shocks and am very happy with them. Even
though my car has the “SportsPack” stiffer suspension, my
passengers have no complaints about the level of comfort.
As for your final point, I’m sure you can pick up a set of
SLS shocks from somewhere but I would advise that you follow
Jaguar’s advice and do the conversion. If Browns Lane no
longer have faith in the SLS, neither do I!
