[modern] SIII - XJ40 rear suspension development

I have here in my hands a paper written about the development of the rear
suspension of the XJ40. The details are:

Title: The development of a high comfort, high stability rear suspension
Author: Anthony Cartwright, Jaguar Cars Limited, Coventry
Publisher: Institute of Mechanics Engineers
Paper: 0265-1904/86

It is a very interesting paper covering the design requirements for the XJ40
rear suspension, and it also describes the perception by Jaguar of the
then-current XJ6 (Series III and XJ-S) rear suspension. It is a technical
paper, but written from a practical perspective. Engineers (like myself) eat it
up but the average Jaguar enthusiast would definitely get something out of it.

The best bet to getting a copy is via your local library. IMechE is a UK (or
European) organization. A university library would be my recommended source,
otherwise a local library or calling/emailing IMechE directly.

I got a chuckle out of the paper in that one of the design requirements was
durability and reliability. It also mentioned the use of the beloved leveling
system. Say no more. I know the engineer at Jaguar whose first job when he
joined the Jaguar in 1988-89 was to design the leveling system OUT of the
suspension because it was so problematic.
