This is an unusual request. I have a friend who is
in the aftermarket suspension parts business and makes
sway bars for different cars, among other things. He’s
made a few for my Series 3 XJ6 and XJS as prototypes,
and gone on to manufacture that type for other
enthisiasts. He’d like to now make a version for the
88 and up sedans (XJ40 style). He has a standard bar
as a pattern (it’s 13/16" in diameter) and would like
to make one that is 1" diameter. This should make a
big improvement in the handling of the sedans. The
only problem is he doesn’t have a car to try it on to
verify the design, etc.,.(the pattern bar came from a
sedan that was being parted out). It is being designed
to be a bolt in replacement for the standard bar using
all of the stock mounting points and end links. If you
have an 88 and up XJ6 and would like to try this new
bar for fit, please let me know. The idea here would
be to try it on an actual carm verify the fit is
correct with no interferences, and possibly even get
some feedback on the handling changes with it.
Ideally, he would like to find someone in the Northern
California area, but that’s not an absolute
requirement. The test fit could be a temporary thing,
or permanent- the details could be worked out. Please
