[modern] XJS a/c fan

I recently purchased a '93 XJS convertible. With summer coming on quickly,
I recently discovered that the a/c doesn’t get very cold. I took it in to
my mechanic to check the freon level. He discovered that the right hand fan
is not blowing at all. He says that it’s a little low on freon, but until I
fix the fan, it will never get cool enough regardless of the freon level.
The fuses are ok, any ideas on how to check out the fan would be
appreciated. Is there a separate, inline fuse or relay that would control
the right side fan?
Thanks,
Jeff

The climate control system in the 93 XJS is almost identical to the system
in your 92 sedan. I would bet that you have a bad blower.
BTW, if you only have one blower working the air coming out of the dash
would actually be colder than if both were working. You may need to replace
your mechanic along with the blower.

Jeff,

I am just finishing up some work on my fan blower motors on the ‘91 VDP. I
don’t know if they’re the same as the XJS, but mine turned out to be the
brushes. I replaces all the electronics, too, since they are cheap and easy
to fix, but I had to file new brushes down and solder their pigtail onto the
clip. Now, both of the fans run flat out like a lizard runnin’.
Unfortunately, to do almost any testing, you’ll have to drop the housings.
That isn’t much fun.
