Yes; if you peek in there you will see a stream of fuel running back into the tank. As long as you don’t smoke there is no risk.

If you feel somewhat confident about oil and filter you can do the brakes. I did it alone but a helper to push the pedal is useful 
just make sure the car is supported well and keep the reservoir full.
