[pre-xk] Early Rad Cap Leaper?

There is a Jaguar radiator cap leaper for sale on E-Bay that piques
my interest (item #6543038359 ‘‘Vintage Jaguar Mascot’’). Can anyone
tell if it is a real factory item? Or is it a copy that has seen a
fair bit of use?

A leaper came with my Mark V, in excellent agreement in every
detail (except the broken tail) with pictures I have seen of early
Jaguar leapers. When I compare the leaper in my possession with
that on E-Bay there are some differences visible although it does
have the crouching rear legs. I’ve also got a reproduction leaper
for daily use on my car and it differs from my old, apparently
original one also.

Related to this topic, I obtained a Desmo jaguar leaper recently.
This is the mid-30’s radiator ornament that reputedly got Lyons to
have a factory leaper made. It’s the curiosity that looks like a
cat was shot off the fence. It appears in a couple of photos in the
new Barrie Price’s ‘‘The Rise of Jaguar’’ book and elsewhere. Any
interest for photos somewhere?–

It looks pretty much like the reproduction leaper I got many years ago from
Bob Brosen, who is a member of this list. Same leg positions, but mine may
have a slightly longer tail, or the ebay one may be bent, and mine is coarse
thread where this ebay one is fine thread.
