[pre-xk] Mark V saloon wiring run

Pages 87-90 of the SPC seems to suggest that flashers were on US Canada cars from the beginning, but there is a peculiarity, in that the list of chassis for US/Can sidelamps includes RHD cars.

It wouldn’t be the first mistake we’ve found in this publication.
That’s why I am rethinking this idea and wondering if the assumption that flashers were on all US cars may be a false assumption.
For the saloon, I believe all bodies had the slots in the center posts and wiring in the roof there for trafficators, and it was simply a matter of installing different window frames and side light sockets and tail lights and cutting an extra hole in each rear quarter for rear signal wiring.
But for the DHC the trafficator slots were cut in the side panels, so rather early in the production process before painting, not easily changed over.
It may be that Michael’s car was simply a leftover trafficator body near the end of production and was sent to the US to fill a last order from Hornburg? Does that theory lead anywhere?

Hi Tim,

In the front the sidelight housing has a dual-bulb, like one usually used for combined rear sidelight and stop light, 5W/21W. (Although IIRC the original spec was 5W/20W.)

And in the rear the US directional flasher cars had a rear light housing with two bulbs, one just like described for the sidelight and stop light and another one for a 21W bulb just for the directional flashing indicator. The original lense is of the twin”bullseye” type, so it has a round indent for both rear light bulbs.

It is also in the Service manual, but like Rob already wrote, they stragely have called this setup in the wiring diagram ”RHD USA Export models” although the cars of course were LHD.

Cheers!
