Recomended steering wheel removal

Hi Guys, As the 85 XJ6 has an adjustable steering column with a locking collar and from what I’ve heard this is easy to damage Is there an easy or recommended way of removing the steering wheel?
Thanks Again
Steve

I don’t know if there’s a recommended way.

However, on all my old (80s vintage) Jags I’ve simply removed the hold-down nut, given the steering wheel a few gentle wiggles and, voilá! Off it comes.

Other older cars I’ve worked on require a steering wheel puller but the fit on the splines never seems to be very tight on the Jags.

Others will chime in.

Cheers
DD

Might pay to keep the nut on the shaft in case the wheel releases sharply and takes a few teeth out

Per the other guys you should not need a puller. There should be a pressed metal lock nut over the substantive retaining but. Undo both and wiggle off per above. Paul
