My XJ40 boot release has detached itself and I can no longer open the boot, any ideas ? Thanks, Mike.
Have not done it myself but if you remove the number plate there is an aperture that can give you access to the lock mechanism and trip the catch.

As Larry states the boot can be opened via a hole in the rear upright portion, however on some cars the hole has to be drilled, I had to do this on my ‘92 there will be instructions somewhere in the archives to find the correct position to rill the hole.
Do you know how to access the archive ? I cant find it !!!
