I’ve been recommending replacing the OEM POS remote brake fluid reservoir on the XJ-S with one from a Mitsubishi for years. Now somebody on the E-Type list found a reservoir for a BMW and decided to use it on his E-Type. It might work on our XJ-S’s too:
He’s very happy with his. There’s even a button on top you use to press the float down to test the warning light.
I think that this could also work on the XJ.
The reservoir is mounted directly on the master cylinder but one could fashion adaptors that would connect to it…?
As with the XJS, the original XJ reservoir is also of an appalling design, providing no seal from the outside world, new fluid is black in a matter of months…
Ah yes, the originality vs affordabilty debate. I’d much rather have the car on the road, damn the non-standard brake resevoir (or whatever part), for the cost of a very reasonable replacement.
