Replacing the ignition

I somehow managed to get my hands on a New Old Stock ignition with 3 news keys for my 1978 pre-HE XJ-S, as the original one was getting worse. I noticed that the new ignition has 5 outgoing wires and the original had 6, and the purple wire from the original one has been replaced by a double wire on the new one.

Does anyone know what the purpose of these different set-ups is and what would be the best way to make the new ignition work on my XJ-S?

The purple wire and the gismo at the ignition switch are for the buzer circuit, nothing critical and you can easily adapt it or interchange it.

As for the 5 - 6 cable plug, see what the extra wire does, i.e. is it for accesories, run, start or ground and modify the new switch accordingly.

Perfect, Ill have a go at it tomorrow! Thanks again
