[s-type] 2004 Diesel Cutting Out

Dear All,
My partners 2004 diesel U.K. s type has recently
developed a fault that causes the engine to cut out
completely. The dash messages are; gearbox fault, abs fault
& handbrake fault. A switch off and pause will allow it to
restart most of the time, but not always.
The car is with a mechanic at present and his code reader
says communication fault. He seems to feel that the gearbox
and engine e.c.u. are not talking to each other. This seems
to support my feeling that it could be an electrical
issue/dirty connector somewhere along the lines.
Within the last six months we have had one of the abs
sensors replaced but not entirely sure that that would
cause the current problem with the car.

Any and all ideas gratefully received before we have to
resort to a main dealer…

We are in the U.K. based in Wiltshire

Regards

Hello,

Could be a Speed sensor, try to read the codes.
If not any code is found and you have Multiple error codes in
your S-types, they are usually related to A weak battery.

Hi,
Recently we had one of the speed sensors replaced
after it started to throw the abs fault, this cleared that
fault up. I also replaced the battery on it about 12 - 16
months ago, so I’m kind of discounting that for the moment.
The battery could, of course, need a bit of a charge as
here in the U.K. we have had unseasonably cold and wet
weather which given the heated and electric seats on the
car and return trips home in the dark with the lights on
could’ve pulled the battery voltage down a bit…

The code reader of the local mechanic says communication
error

Thanks anyway for the suggestions…

You might start by replacing the power train control relays
in the front fuse box, relays #3 & #14.–
