[s-type] 2006 S-Type Underside

While looking for the source of an oil leak, or transmission
fluid leak I think, I notice a large covering hanging down
on one end, as if it has lost some bolts. It’s in the area
of the oil pan.

Does anyone know what this covering is or the importance of
it? Of course, it has oil spots in several different places
on the underside and I leave a sizable spot on the driveway
when I park now, especially when the engine is hot from
driving home from the office.

I have a photo, but can’t figure how to post it.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

My 2000 model year has only a small under body shield on one
side, not a full width cover. If your covering is plastic,
it is undoubtedly an under body dirt shield, and should be
bolted up so it doesn’t catch on objects in the road. You
can take it off to look for the source of your oil leaks.
Motor oil leaks are usually black. Power steering and
transmission fluid leaks are red. Coolant leaks may be green
or orange or blue. Air conditioning drips are normal, clear
water and no concern.–
