[s-type] leaking thermostat house 4.2 NON supercharged

Huge coolant leak from the thermostat housing. Not the front
thermostat cover. Instead the housing that receives the thermostat
and to which the cover is fastened.

There is a round tube like projection of the housing below the
throttle body that faces the driver’s side of the car. There must
have been a round plug/stopper pressed into the open end of the
tube and now the engine coolant runs easily out of the opening.
Aside from that there is a split in the housing just indie the
opening that continues the leak even if the opening is blocked.

My questions are:

Is this a common problem with the 4.2 non-supercharged motors?

Is there an ‘‘updated’’ housing available, and if so what is the part
number?

What is involved with replacement of the housing? Some idea as to
the time needed would be appreciated too.

I would assume that it would be a good idea to replace the
thermostat itself, but do you have any other suggestions for
ordering supporting parts?

Thanks for any and all inputs! Jack–

It’s time for a new Thermostat housing kit which includes the
thermostat, check out Ebay!

If over 4-years old, consider a new Dual Climate Control Valve
(DCCV), because they will go bad too.–
