[s-type] tranny noise during transition from park to drive or reverse

For a 2000 s-type, does anyone experience a sort of ‘‘motorized’’
noise when shifting the car out of park to drive or reverse? The
noise only occurs during the transition out of park state.

The car has only 26k miles. Is this an indication of the infamous
tranny failure on the early years of this model?

A great many thanks.

The action of moving from Park is interlocked with a number of
actions e.g. it locks the doors. Just a guess, but could it be
something not related to the gearbox at all?

Cheers,
