S2 heater bypass oval vent: does it have a mesh?

Hi All
Well, the 3D printing post went a bit gangbusters didn’t it. Hope this one is easier.

Pass side inner sill and front floor is now in. What was left of the gearbox tunnel is out and a few replacement pieces cut and ready for welding in when the world calms a bit.

Taking a break from the outside world and the heater box caught my eye. New ‘lid’ tacked on, cleaned, fan motor brought back to life and all painted. My question is on the long oval fibreglass (?) insert that is pop riveted in place on the bottom of the unit. Does this have a mesh over it or is it just an insert looking for a role?

Any pics will safe me reading 3500 words.

I don’t believe it had a mesh originally. However adding a piece of window screen there would be a good idea as it blocks a place mice can get inside the heating ducts and inside the car.

thanks. Might just do that as I suspect it could be a hiding place for all sorts of litter, spiders and other creatures as you suggest. Fly wire is a good option.
