I bought a xj6 4,2 series 1 (1973) a week ago, and I do have a question
about the registration number of the engine. According to all documents my
car is supposed to have a 7L… engine but it starts with 8L…
Does anybody knows about the engine type, year of make etc. It sounds and
runs excellent by the way

Hello Frank,
My list shows 8L engines are from Series II XJ-6 which began in 1973.
Are you sure your car is a Series 1 ? It could be an engine swap or a late
Series 1 with a Series II engine, stranger things have happened in Jaguar
land. Try posting to the XJ-6 list, I’m sure someone can tell you when your
car was made and whether this issue came up before.
