[Saloon-lovers] Mk 2 "A" post chrome trim

From photos in Thorley’s book and other references it appears as if
there should be chrome trim plates on the A posts between the
sealing rubber and the furflex. But my car doesn’t have these
plates and furthermore there appear to be no screw holes to mount
them.

Did the very early Mk 2s come without these plates or is this just
another part that I am missing? And other than cosmetic, do these
plates serve any useful function?
