[Saloon-lovers] Re: [Mark 10 Engine / Tranny]

David,

Just some more thoughts
-The kick down switch needs to be on the other e.g. worked at full throttle.
-Need to use XJ starter motor, with slight change to wiring.
-I have fitted a after market oil cooler behind the number plate for the
gearbox, as the line through the radiator hose is not the best
-I had to do some panel beating on the lover inner transmission tunnel ( if
that makes any sense), also the spring holder plate I needed to increase the
length of the bolt slots
-Gearchange selector from a 420 or later MK10(4.2) OR 420G with a new hole in
the transmission tunnel
-Make up a new lever for at the gearbox end

Also my MK10 is now on the road and enjoying everyday motoring

Hope this helps,

Giles

Hello Giles, thank you for responding to my post on Jag-Lovers (2/25/00).

It was the one asking for advice on installing a 72 XJ6 (4.2) engine and
transmission into a 62 Mark 10. I got the engine and transmission for a great
price and it pretty much deleted my $$ for a while. I was looking at the new
unit (eng/tran) side by side with my old transmission (BW , DG150M, serial
number JX1323, most people say it’s a DG250-M, they have never heard of the
150) and it’s only a total of 3" longer (I could get the driveshaft cut back).
I then got on my back under the car looking into the transmission tunnel and
there looks to be more than enough room for the additional 3" and extra height
needed for the end of the box. I understand that the gear selection unit on
the 2 cars do differ but at this time I see that to be the least of my
problems? The vacuum lines seem to be not a problem, the kickdown switch is
already mounted on the linkage, I can put an aftermarket oil cooler on it. My
other way to go is to put my old BW on the new engine, it seemed to work ok
with the car was running. Of course it leaked a little (don’t they all!) The
guys around here want between 1500 and 2000 to rebuild the old tyranny, for
that price I’ll buy a pan for my garage floor  The seal kit runs about 500
and who knows if I’d do more harm then good? Any help, thoughts, feelings on
these would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
