Sealed for life ball joints. What to do with the shims?

Hello all,

I fitted “sealed for life” ball joints on the fronts hubs.

It seems rather clear that there is now no need for the shims that were originally below the bottom ball joint.

Am I right?

My 86 had this type of ball joints from the factory and as far as I remember there were no shims.

I would be inclined to shorten the bolts, they are grade 8.8 correct?
