Source for XK120 battery box Oddie / Dzus stud?

The battery box for the XK120 is held down by two large Oddie studs (aka Dzus fastners). The length under the head is 1”, the round head is 5/8” across and notched bullet-shaped end is 3/8” in diameter. I have one, need another (or a new pair), plus two suitable clips. It looks like this

The same stud was used for a Rocket 3 British motorcycle and I found online a supplier in the UK, PayPal’ed the requisite £41 including £17 for shipping for a pair back in February but never got them - the vendor didn’t reply when asked for a tracking number and when I filed a PayPal claim was immediately reimbursed minus the shipping charge, and the claim was closed, so I’m left with the impression I got stiffed. Not inclined to reorder from them.

The Dzus fasteners from the usuals are for the gearbox inspection lid, which are smaller in size.

Anyone know where these larger fasteners and clips are available?

Thx!

You might try some of the aircraft suppliers in the US. Wag Aero list some. Other sources would be Aircraft Spruce and Sporty’s. Good luck.

Thanks, Lewis. Will follow up!

Hi Nick…SNGB list them but shown as out of stock…so other suppliers must do them or find out form SNGB when they are expected in…Steve

Anything like this that I can’t easily find I get my machinist to machine up in stainless and sometimes it helps in they need to be slightly longer of different

The subject generated a long thread on the pre-xk forum.

Nick,

You could have a look at item 06-1006 listed by this supplier http://www.britcycle.com. This part may not be the correct size but they are vintage bike specialists and may be able to assist.

Nick:

If memory serves (always a tricky thing these days) I seem to recall MGAs had these style of fasteners for the panel behind the seats, Would that be worth checking?

Chris.

Nicholas,
I have a few that appear new with some of the clips also.
Currently don’t have pics but I’ll take some now.
How much do you think is fair, with shipping?
I prefer using Zelle but can accept PayPal.
Where are you located?
Since I’m always away from the computer please CALL or TEXT me before 4 PM, PST @ 650-455-1110.

Hi Nick,
Welch lists them:

Tom Brady

Thanks, all.

Tom, I bought the Moss offering but the dzus fasteners for the dipstick cover are much smaller than the ones for the battery box - battery box on the left, dipstick cover on the right.

I keep a few tools a quart of oil, 20wt for the carb dampers, hand cleaner, 5 twenties, and other sundries in the battery box so easy access is desired. A thief will likely never look there

Mine are therefore incorrect winged dzus fasteners.
I like them because no tool or coin is needed to loose or tighten.

Oh I know, John. Sometimes the pursuit of originality is a fool’s errand :sunglasses:

Hi Nick,

Are they long enough for the dipstick cover? I bought a new set from SNG but they are just too short with the new carpet.

Tim

Yes, Timothy, they work There’s no underlay between the inspection cover and the gearbox cover, only carpet, though It’s still a tight fit.

Okay, thanks Nick.

Tim

Which battery box cover 120fhc dhc cubby box or the roadster one.
if the pic is showing one for the roadster the roadster one is completey different.
So on the XK120 range there are 4 versions

Wow, 4 different versions? This one’s for a 1954 roadster.

Hi Nick,

The Moss USA website has two types.

36-2700 which you have.

D01AE52D-5D66-4055-9A71-6DAFFC93E188

And 36-2702. I asked Moss what the difference was as there is no mention of any detail in the description. They haven’t replied. :person_shrugging:

They look about the same length but might be different widths?

Tim

I’m interested in learning about the different XX120 versions.
