Substitute Bosch D-Jetronic Fuel Pressure Regulator

As many know, finding new old stock Bosch 0280160001 fuel pressure regulators for the D-Jetronic system are next to impossible. Found this - Universal Fuel Pressure Regulator Package Porsche 914

They are actually fairly easy to obtain, albeit expensive. That system was first put into a VW, but Mercedes used it in bulk. Here is a NOS unit for example.

Used units can be had for much less.

One really important note, they are extremely hardy units, and almost never require replacement / they also shouldn’t be adjusted unless as last resort, as they simply control and maintain rail pressure back to the tank(s). The MAP and ECU are your mixture control, with adjustments on the MAP, if needed.

Chances are, if you are experiencing mixture issues, the diaphragm in the MAP has ripped, and you cannot compensate for that through the manual adjustment of the regulators.

Your suggested replacement is fine, the 914 used D-Jet, just make sure you set the pressure to spec and then leave it. It’s fairly critical on the V12, as under bonnet and coolant temps get so high, misadjusted regulators can create lean conditions at high fuel usages (highways), causing heat and the ever wonderful valve seat drops.
