Tire inner tube install question

when installing the tire inner tubes, is it preferred or required to used the small plastic insert that the stem goes through? the plastic insert snaps into the wheel stem hole.

I’ve found that the plastic inserts are needed only if the rubber shank of the valve is loose in the wheel. So…the answer is “it depends” on the diameter of valve stem vs the diameter of hole in the wheel. A snug fit keeps the valve from retracting into the wheel when deflated.

Check inside of tire for any tags that might rub through the tube and also dust inside tire with talcum powder. Experience.
