Does the upper door chrome strip on the early (1962) car fit just above the seam with the lower panel or “on top” of the seam…I have seen both
Pete, on my early '62 the upper strip fitted along the top of the lower door card by means of screws and clips.
A much better solution, I think is to use the later type which is a U-channel, looks almost the same but holds the lower door card securely against the door.
Looks like the strip is on the seam rather than above it.??
when you say…later type…do you mean the 4.2 strip?

I put it on the seam. Looked at many pictures of E types from that vintage and the strip was either above, below or on the seam.
I like the look of on the seam.
Place it where you like.

Yes, I guess that’s when it was changed. Here it is on my '62. The 4.2 chrome strip is actually continued down the front of the door card but the earlier version just has vinyl beading, which is what I used.
Thats the way mine is…on the seam…hard to get right…the little screws are in the upper panel.
