[v12-engine] How do I disable the over run cut off on a 6.0?

I have a 87 XJS with a later model 6.0 mated to a Getrag 5
speed… I have to say it’s an awesome conversion, but at the
moment a pain to drive round town due to the horrible over run
cut off which seems to kick in at low speeds causing the
engine to cut in and out at low speeds.

I’ve heard you can re program the ECU to disable it. AJ6
engineering quoted me 350 to re program my ECU though I
wondered if there is a cheaper option ?–

AJ6 is the only game in town…or the world, short of going to an
aftermarket Fuel/Ignition management system. It is expensive, it is
absolutely needed, and I am grateful that Roger is around to do it!

Hi Dave, thanks for the insight. I’m pleased in a way that he
is the only one doing it as he knows what he’s talking about.
I think I shall give him another ring today to discuss when he
can do it.

Thanks, Marko–

Just curious, btw, are you running the 6.0L complete with it’s
original injectors, Marrelli ign, and 6.0L ECU, or do you just have
a 6.0L engine running with the 5.3 ECU, etc?
I have seen some other folks on the web that say they can re-map our
ECU’s or in the case of the 6L ECU provide a chip, (simply
performance for example) but I don’t know anything about them, and
my guess is they are farming it out to Roger anyway. Not sure I
would trust anyone else to do it, though, as AJ6 has the knowledge,
and the experience… just my $0.02

I’m running it with the 6L ECU (32 CU) and the Marrelli
ignition and everything else that belongs to the 6L. Only
parts of the wiring that are original to the car are stuff
for lights wipers and all that.

I spoke to Roger today, who advised that perhaps the problem
is not the overun cut off. He suggested that it shouldn’t be
a problem above 5mph and from my experience it happens up to
30mph. He also advised that I swap the ECU for a 5.3 one
16CU as it’s generally better for my usage. Apparently the
32CU has a lot of inputs for sensors that may not be
connected and also uses the lambda sensors which for a
track/road car maybe not needed. He mentioned too that it
has a limp home mode and there would be no way to read the
ECU without having the cars on board diagnostic computer
connected (i’m guessing that’s a part of the doner car the
engine came from). Anyway, full of information is Roger

Also just wanted to mention from the way John from Simply
Performance spoke of AJ6 Engineering I would guess that he
doesn’t farm the ECU work to AJ6. He actually recommended
that I don’t get my ECU done by them. Guess they are
competition or something, but not sure really.–
