[v12-engine] list of items to replace in engine rebuild

Hi,

So far I’ve got my own list which includes the normal obvious
stuff (spark plugs, wires) for 5.3he engine such as:

upgraded oil pump
water pump
gm alt
upgraded head gasket sets etc
half moon seals
cooling hoses
damaged camshaft
fuel injectors (cleaned)
timing chain & tensioner

anything else?
plan to rebuild the wiring harness.–

Hi Joe
Do you need the upgraded oil pump??
While you’re there do the ‘‘lutz’’ mod to try and get more
water to the back of the engine.
Move the water temp sensor to the opposite side as
recommended in Kirby Palms book.
Re-do the tappets a ‘‘smidgen’’ wider than stock.
Replace the valve stem seals.
Don’t undo the timing chain ‘‘whip’’ guides without marking
their position first.
When you replace your TDC indicator and have re-set it
with a dial gauge put a couple of witness marks on it
because it is bolted in position and can be easily moved
losing the key engine position indicator.
Don’t reuse the cam cover bolts. They are crazy ovoid
things . Buy new ‘‘normal’’ M6 (??? I think they are M6)
bolts.
Mark the position of the cam chain cover bolts and the
water pump bolts. They are all different lengths and you
have got other things to do than play ‘‘put all the bolts
in all the holes 50 times until you have them in the right
place.’’ Put a number on the heads in some logical order
and congratulate yourself when you put them back in and
have remembered your logic!!!
All good fun…
Regards
Matt–

Total seal gapless rings might give you a little more
power, could be a gimmick but it makes since.

Rod bearings
Main bearings
Timing chain guides
Oil line o-rings
Check pistons/liners. You may need both
Of course, rings, as mentioned
Front crank seal
Rear crank seal rope–

I figured on that stuff. Engine rebuilders said this was a 300mi
engine. Pistons and liners should be in good shape.

I figured most of the seals would need work. They look ragged.–
