[v12-engine] Re: electric water pump

Hi All, if you check out this link

it has graphs, etc which detail some of the things discussed. In particular,
it notes that the mechanical water pump is of necessity sized for worst case
cooling, ie, vehicle stationary at idle on a hot day. Under virtually all
other conditions it circulates more water than needed, hence draws more
power than needed. Their electric water pump draws 7.5 amps, at 14.5 volts
(approx. 0.15 horsepower)- compare that with the 30 or so horsepower that
the mechanical pump takes to drive it at max revs. Given a reasonably
“smart” controller, the electric pump can be throttled back or even turned
off under many driving conditions.

The only things that stop me fitting one are money (haven’t got any!) and
the reliability question (its aftermarket, not oem) (though I have got a
davies-craig electric fan fitted).

I believe Wayne Estrada fitted one of these, though he’s taking a
sabbatical from the lists right now.
