[v12-engine] V12 6.0 bellhousing pattern

Correct, although since Norbert wants to convert from an automatic, it suggests he has a mainstream model which means Marelli or ND. I don’t think JaguarSport made auto 6.0L did they? Not in Europe anyhow. I’d bet 99% of the tuned specialist conversions were manual too, except I think the Chasseur models, which did include a souped-up XJ12 S3 auto IIRC.

My 6.0L XJR-S is from the UK, and uses a GM400 transmission. It was modified by TWR from standard production with a “recalibrated valve body and rear accumulator spring” - so says The Fine Manual.

Well I’ve learned something new, thanks.

I have owned/compared many otherwise identical auto/manual Jag powertrains:

Mk2 (XK 3.4, 3.8),
Mk IX 3.8)
E-Type (4.2, 5.3)
XJ (4.2, 5.3)
AJ6 XJ40/XJS 3.6
X300 (3.2, 4.0 & XJR)

In every single case, the biggest performance improvement was the responsiveness increase given by dumping the torque converter. If I had an automatic version of any car made last century that I wanted to make more sporting, the first, most effective and best bang-per-buck change would be to swap to a. manual transmission. Everything else is secondary IMO. Automatics are faster than manuals nowadays, and good paddle shift systems are available, but stick still rules up to 2000-ish.

I guy I used to manage when we were younger did convert an X305 (1996 XJ12) to Getrag, so it is possible. I don’t know how he got around the lack of a transmission ECU.

After a front end suspension rebuild, the next thing on the list is converting my XJR-S to manual transmission. I’ve been wavering over the power capability of Tremec vs Getrag, since the XJR-S has an advertised power which seems to be just over the upper limit on these transmissions. But I’m pretty sure that a number of my original horse powers have wandered off to pastures new, and I shouldn’t be too worried.

As far as l know pretty much ALL the Jaguarsport 6 litres were TH400 autos and the factory 6 litres that followed had 4L80E’s bolted up.

Doing a manual swap in my Pre HE XJS with a -95 6.0L engine.
Using a BMW 530D 6-speed transmission…

What’s with that funky flywheel?

Clutch must reach the input shaft … adapter adds about 24mm
Pilot bearing located inside the input shaft not at the crank as normally seen.

Truth & honesty will set U free!

I have this clutch on my E-type. Thanks for posting the specs, didn’t know that.
