[v12-engine] XJ220 V6 engine

Hi, just a simple question:
Does anybody know where the turbocharged V6 in the XJ220 came
from? A Ford design perhaps?–

It came from the MG Metro mid engined touring rally
car.

It was designed by David Wood, an engine specialist with much
experience of Cosworth racing engines, for Austin Rover to use in
their Metro 6R4 rally car, with a lot of consultation with and
influence from Cosworth. Many of the parts and features, i.e. valve
gear, pistons, port geometry, etc., were taken directly from the
legendary DFV V8 F1 engine, and Cosworth produced the cylinder
heads. Really it could be considered close to being a DFV with two
cylinders less. TWR purchased the design in 1988 and developed it
as a turbocharged power unit to replace the V12 in their later XJR
race cars and then detuned it slightly for the production XJ220.

Whilst the Cosworth connection does add a tenuous Ford link I think
it would be stretching things a lot to suggest it was a Ford design.–
