Which is wich? Need more charactors oops

89 3.6, 2 sensors on each wheel, which is abs and which is brake pad sensor? My abs light is on.

The ABS speed sensor is mounted on the wheel hub and looks like this -

https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/jaguar-xj6-parts/braking-system/anti-lock-braking-system/anti-lock-braking-system-electrics-up-to-v-594575

They have a pair of predominantly red wires

The brake pad sensor disappears in to the brake caliper and sits in the brake pad

They have a pair of predominantly orange wires

Tthank you Bryan. I will get under there and see if I can tell the difference, although it looks like the abs sensors have 2 bolts to mount, hopefully I will be able to tell the difference.

No, not two bolts on the abs sensor, just one …the sensor is mounted vertically on top of the hub and unless you’re VERY lucky it’s a bitch to remove in one piece. Try to leave it where it is if you can, these puppies cost more than a parts car!!!

Actually, they’re not even available anymore.

Well I have been driving my 94 dodge for over 10 years with tbe abs light on I don’t think I need it anyway.

I see XKs Unlimited have all of them by special order, small fortune though …

Hello David,
If the abs light is on that mean a bad speed sensor.
You can check your speed sensors to know which one is defective.
And if you are not able to find a new speed sensor you can always fix the old one.

David,

Have you checked other possibilities for the ABS light being illuminated - as described herein :-

You may be right Bryan as my over voltage relay is crrently removed. When I got the car that relay was actualy melted so I left it out until I can figure out what exactly it does? Car seems to run well without it so it wasn’t a top priority. I thought it may have been a source of baytery drain but not sure yet.

Larry, you may be right and XKs Unlimited has a source for one, but I’m guessing that its one of the hundreds of parts that shows available on the website but is actually NLA. I’ve found all the Jag specialists are this way.

David, I wouldn’t worry too much about the ABS light being on. Like you said, even with the ABS being inoperative, you can still drive the car without issue. Mine has remained on even with replacing every major part of the system. Its not going to stop me from enjoying my car though.

Brett, you’re probably right …I looked in vain for a late 94 condenser and had my money refunded 3 times (eventually ended up repairing the original - successfully BTW!)
