Why more C type replicas than D type?

Why are there so many more C type replicas available than D type?
Is it because the tubular frame is easier to reproduce than the monocoque?
Here in Australia there have been two wonderful C type replicas for sale in the past six months. Both around the US $200k mark, one is still available and I would buy it would the better half give me permisssion!
