Wiper connector and testing

Hello everyone
It’s been a while. I have a 1988 Hess and Eisenhardt XJS. The wipers stopped working I pulled another motor from a junkyard. Looks the same Lucas wiper motor and that doesn’t work either. The stalk works, or sends power to the connector. There is power on one of the brass connectors within the rubber connection housing and it turns off when the stalk is actuated. I have attached a pic. I am a layman and electrics are over my head, beyond fuses and using a test probe. My question is if power is only supposed to go to one brass connector lug. Next steps, again in layman terms

I know it sounds weird, but smell the motor first. If no burning smell noticed - you’re looking at small electrical issue rather than motor failure. Tap the motor with mallet and try again - if it will start to work - brushes are on the way out.

The lever switch or delay unit is another thing that can be busted.

Sorry that doesn’t help or answer any of the questions in my first post, but appreciate your input
