Wiring hole for sidelight?

Where is the hole in the wing / fender for the wireing ? I am guessing where I have marked in red ?

Not quite - it’s a surprisingly long way back, don’t know why.
The first shot shows it, right at the back of the nacelle.
For the second shot, I stuck a rod up through the hole and butted a ruler against the rod. Seems to be 5" back to the leading edge of the hole to the front face of the nacelle.

Roger - ps, bet you wish your paint was as nice as mine…

Ta Roger.
Funnily enough my mark was 5".
Just considering using a panel adhesive to fix the pod ? It would give a totally air/water tight bond ? Of course couldn’t lead the joint afterwards, but no need if totally sealed .

I guess it’s an option, but I would weld it personally. Less chance of movement etc.

The factory method was a couple of sheet metal screws to hold it in place, then spot weld all around, then lead filling.

Should we be looking at modern methods ? Perhaps there are now better alternatives? I don’t think putting two screws through is a good idea even if they are removed and leaded. For us in the UK Fuzz on TV uses panel adhesive quite a lot now .
Jim

I use panel adhesive to fit panels to others when the joint remains visible - I’ve never used it where the joint needs to become invisible. I’d hate to get an area as clearly visible as the top of the front wings all painted up beautifully only for cracks or minute movement to become apparent later. I guess that once glued, you could still apply lead over it - the adhesive shouldn’t be on the external surface so it should still tin OK. I don’t have to do mine, but if I did I’d stick with either spot or Mig plug welding I think.
Don’t know, Jim - you could be a pioneer!

I am in a quandary , I am not trying to prove it is a good idea , but look at this video …

My Mark V headlight and sidelight pods are similar in construction but were not quite as bad as that. BTW the factory left the little sheet metal screws in place, didn’t even bother to trim them off.

I think you want to take the headlight pods off. This is the method I have seen at an XK specialist restoration shop near me. I think they do it every time as they hardly ever get one in there these days that doesn’t need it.
