[x-type] Audio Stereo Change

Hello every body, I’ve got a 2002 X-Type 2.5 manual, it Did not has
the CD-Changer include, and I when I ask the dealler to buy it I
foud so old fashion. I mean, Alpine has a lot of new cool model for
CD-Changers, in fact the have a 6-CDs magazine with MP3
functionalities, this is so cool, but I am wondering if it will
works with the stereo in the console. Does any body has instal an
other CD-Chnager different from the one the car includes?

By the way, I have taken my X-Type to the limit at 209 Km/h in a 2
hours trip (I mean not all the time but always fast) and it is so
cool, it is a real fierce, …and the breakes not a problem if you
has to lessen from 209 tho 170 in a curve, just do it!!!, I just
would never drive another car, I really love it. I think we have
made an excellent choice!!!.

Congratulation to every body.–

CAPD,

Well, you get what you pay for…I got only the single CD tray
option on mine, but one can’t expect a mega bucks system, and still
keep the price low. There are a few options available through
Jaguar, but you may also want to contact Alpine to see if there is
anything else that can be plug and play/interchangable to the stock
stystem. If so, it would most likely be less expensive than if you
went through the dealer. Let us know what you find out.

Also - putting it through its paces is lots of fun… My wife
likes to remind me that spirited rides are not her thing, yet she
always has a smile on her face as well when I drop over to the left
side of the J-gate for fun on/off ramp curves - keeping the RPMs&
torque rust right, then accelerating out onto the highway in a
blink. Very responsive, and loads of fun when you’re travelling 40
km/h faster than the highway traffic - and you haven’t gotten to
the highway yet : - )

  • just need to remember to keep it safe !

Cheers, and enjoy !

Sorry to tell you this but the Jaguar changer is the only one that works
with the factory head unit. There are only 3 wires on the Jaguar changer,
power, ground and turn on. The only other connection for data transfer is a
fibre optic cable and no other changers have this. There was talk when the
car was first released that various manufacturers we’re working on adapters
or entire units that would work but none have materialized. The only other
option is an FM modulator unit with a hidden remote but this wouldn’t use
the head unit controls and the sound would be limited to the FM frequency
response that rolls off everything above 15k cycles.

I have a 2002 X-type 3.0 with the 6 CD changer and although I guess
it isn’t MP3 capable, it is very capable of reading AUDIO CD’s
created on my PC. They work and sound just fine, exactly like the
originals, even though the CD was created from MP3 files on the
computer.

Hi,

Joe is quite right unfortunatley or not the data transfer for the
audio is over a fibre optic network, called D2B. No other changer
will work and if fact it is a very advanced piece of kit.

Othe rautomotive manufactures use D2B but due to a small problem
with the D2B system thses are not interchangable.

Keep in touch with your dealer as Alpine are looking to release or
at least I believe things like MP3 head units etc for the X-type, S-
type and the new XJ–
