[x-type] Front Wheel Knock

Has any one experienced a knock on the front off side wheel of a
2ltr front wheel drive x type when reversing on hard lock, also the
tyre is also showing a lot of wear on the inside edge/wall. Any
help would be appreciated.–

Sorry cannot help on the knocking noise but had problems with wear
on inside walls of front tyres after approx 27000 miles. Still had
tread but walls were damaged - replaced and then a few days later I
read that straddling the raised block style of speed hump is a good
way to damage inside of tyre walls!!

Now I drive with one wheel over the centre of the hump - damages
suspension units instead apparently!! But at least I should notice
deterioration in suspension before it kills me but tyre blow outs
are more difficult to deal with I understand!!

Hope the comments help on the tyre wall problem.

Two things spring to mind.
First, check your wheel is not bent or the inside rim kinked. If it
is damaged it might be catching on the suspension or steering gear
on full lock. That might explain both the knock on full lock and
the odd tyre wear.
Second, the knock could be a failing CV joint. I doubt this will
cause the tyre wear though.

Has that corner of the car suffered an impact? It might be worth
getting a comprehensive alignment check, camber, castor and toe.
Hope this helps,
Glenn.–

Mine also has this knock and when I mentioned it to the Jag dealer
whilst the car was in for something else they said it was caused by
the tyres skipping across the road sideways. I’m not convinced
though as it is much more of a mechanical knock.–
