I myself drive an X-type 2.0D for a while now and I like it a lot.
It’s well built, has low fuel consumption, is exclusive (it’s
something different than an Audi or BMW), very reliable, and I
could go on like this for quite a while
My conclusion: The X-type diesel is a beautifully shaped and solid
car with very few problems.
The only thing I mis maybe is an automatic transmission?

Im with Tim and Jimfoz.
I bought my diesel Jaguar in March 2006 and it gives me pleasure
every time I see it and set foot in it.
Mine is the 2.2 unit which for very little loss in fuel consumption
gives 152bhp and pulling torque up from 244 to 270 lb/ft.
And as Jimfoz said it is now available in auto transmission. If the
auto box is half as smooth as the manual box it will be fantastic.
The only drawback with the auto as I see it, will be the extra fuel
consumption.
Oh and if you might be considering alternatives to Jaguar at the
price point of the X-Type, take a close look at all the extras that
come as standard with the X-Type.
It is an eye opener.–
