[x-type] Remote start in my X-type

I just got home this evening from having a remote start
system installed in my 2003 X-type. It was a kind of a long
process, but now finished. It started with only having one,
single key for my car when I took possession of it. I bought
another fob on Ebait, and a pair of uncut keys from Ebait
also. I got the keys cut at a local locksmith, and I got the
second key/fob programmed at a local Rover repair shop. I
bought a couple unprogrammed ignition transponder chips from
England. I was able to program the new chips once I had a
second programmed key. I took one of the lone keys and put
the key portion in the new fob so that I would have a pair
of working key/fobs, and the spare key with programmed chip
in a magnetic holder under the car as an emergency spare. I
took the car to a remote start installer today, to get the
start kit put in. The kit required a separate ‘black box’ to
make it work in a transponder chipped car, like ours. To
program the black box required a pair of working ignition
keys. The remote start works great, and will be nice to have
in the cold weather. The key fobs from Jaguar and the remote
system both work fine independently too.–
