[x300] Auto headlamps

Hi guys,
I’m new here, usually hang out at the XJS forum as I have
owned an 89 coupe for several years. But I just bought a
2000 Vanden Plas that I’m driving on a daily basis.
No real issues yet but the other day the auto headlight
function quit. The side lights come on automatically but no
headlights. The headlights work manually but not on auto.

The other issue is I want to buy new tires and would like
input from other owners what to buy. I’m looking for comfort
and quiet.

Happy to be a 2 Jaguar car owner.I get to check both forums
each day.

You might see if the YU (yellow/blue) wire in the lighting
stalk/switch is still soldered to the terminal.

Sometimes they break off with use of the turn signal switch
movement.

Welcome to our end of the forums, Michael. I used
Continentals all weather tires on my X-300 and had pretty
good service from them. Except for the XJR variant, which
apparently can have Tramlining problems, I do not think
these cars are very sensitive to tire brand.

If you do not have an OBD scanner, I suggest you get one.
Even thought the X-300 is not the best at reporting
diagnostics, it is still better than nothing. Get one that
can give trend charts of parameters like fuel trim and TPS
values and you will have a good start of maintaining an
X-300 by yourself.–

Thanks guys for your help and advice,
I do almost all of the work on the XJS and will continue
that with the VDP. The tire info was good thanks.
I think I figured out the auto headlamps. I replaced the
dimming/leaking gel interior mirror for a new Acura model.
Fitted perfect but I don’t think it has the autolamp wiring
capabilities as 2 wires on the old mirror plug had nowhere
to be soldered so I guess its manual headlights from here on in.
While I’m posting I would like to say a real big thank you
to Sparkenzap for a posting of his which he claims no
ownership of but posted it for the benefit of others. It was
how to open a non functioning XJ8 hood. I followed it to the
letter and had the hood open in about 45mins including the
drilling of the access hole. If it hasn’t already been added
to the stickies I think it might be a good idea. as the
vehicles are maturing this problem of stuck hoods will
surface more often. I don’t now how to post links but the
post I followed was dated 01/02/2012. Once again a big thanks.
