[x300] boot open button on boot Xj8 4 litre

I have managed at last to find out why the button stopped working:
after removing plastic cover of boot loom behind hinge found one
broken wire and four others with plastic insulation cracked
although wire still intact. Repaired wire with insert and solder
and covered with that heat shrink plastic - now works okay - hurray!

Still doesn’t explain why boot lights don’t come on or boot open
micro switch in latch not working - no longer a boot open message
on dash. Though latter could explain why former not working.–

You almost certainli need a new latch switch but, remove the
booylid carpet and have a look at the wiring first. It’s also
possible that you may have missed a dmaged wire in the oom behind
the boot hinge. Have tested whether the latch switch is getting
power?–

I don’t know where the latch switch is. Is it in latch assembly
within the boot lid itself, or the body part of the latch though I
can’t see anything there…–

Simon,

Open the boot and remove the plastic surround (2 screws?) on the
lid latch. You can then pull the latch though, enough to see the
plastic switch. Don’t pull it through too far or you may dislodge
the rods that connect to the key hole and boot lid solenoid.

If you’re lucky, the wire for the lights may have become unplugged.–

had exact same problem. I fixed w/crimp on connector.
Solder much more elegant fix.

I also took apart micro switch & added some spray lubricant
to try to fix. It (i.e. the lights) worked maybe 5 times
after I put it all back together. I will get a new switch
when I can. I’m thinking that’s easier than checking out
the 5 or so other wires that looked iffy @ the hinge…

I suppose I could take the carpet off again & look @ the
switch w/ multimeter to make sure it’s getting fed…again
my thinking is I have to but the switch to make that hassle
worthwhile. I mean if you’re following the manual, you have
to replace the Christmas tree retainers which cost $5 or $10
if you can find some.–

Thanks bal jag! I’ll check out/repair the wires first. Is the
switch easy to get to/remove?–

Managed to locate micro switch in latch. It IS getting power but no
voltage on other side of switch when manually pressing it so
obviously faulty switch. Will have a look around and will get one
if I can see one cheap enough!–
