[x300] ebay Jag buying tips

Hey leapers, I thought I’d report in now that I can say I have
bought three Jags off ebay. Many lessons learned so far. My first
Jag is a 1996 Vanden Plas that had 80k miles on it and came from
Texas. Seller had some negative feedbacks but a bunch of positives
too. I have learned first and foremost that you can’t go by the
pictures when looking at the condition of the paint Job. My first
Jag looked amazing in the pics but when I got it, it had about 500
touchups. Backing up here, when I called the moron, he said it had
no detractions. I reiterated that I wanted to know if there was
ANYTHING you could say that would be something you could beef
about. He said it was perfect. Well, 500 touchups, a broken and
leaking sunroof, tires completely to the belts on the insides of
the tires, leaking power steering hose that goes through the
radiator, lots of little broken connectors all over the place, non-
working electrochromatic mirror, broken fins on the heater vents,
stereo intermittent, etc. At least the interior leather was in
excellent shape. So you can’t trust sellers very well. If you want
to be sure, get it inspected. Picture can lie. If it doesn’t look
very good in the pictures, it probably is much worse. Have the
tires inspected by actually getting the guy to look underneath at
the insides of the tires. On newer models, 1998 on, make sure you
get a nice sharp close up of the wood on the drivers door these
seem to very prone to cracking from elbowing them to open the door,
seen that one a lot. We just bought a second Jag, another Vanden
Plas, 2000 MY. After buying it from a Florida seller, on the way to
the terminal for shipment, the tranny goes out. He takes it back to
the lease company and gets his money back. Meanwhile we assume he
will wire back to us so we buy another Jag from Pennsylvania. The
Florida guy takes almost three weeks to get our money back. They
had sent a check when we had begged them every day to wire the
money back and my wife was so distraught, she was physically ill
over it when we checked the fund of the check and it was NSF. I
told them I was on the way from Oregon to Florida within a few days
to personally resolve it. Finally they wired the money back before
I rearranged someones nose. LESSON - make sure you deal with a
dealership with great feedback and not idiots who sell cars on ebay
via their cellphones regardless of their feedback. Make sure they
will instantly wire your money back if a refund is needed. So, our
third Jag is on the way from PA. This company, The Transportation
Station inc has been so incredibly supportive and patient it’s
beyond belief. These guys have bent over backwards helping us
through this horrid second transaction. If you want a Jag, look
these guys up because they deserve it, they are truly great guys.
If anyone wants to know who the moron was that I dealt with on the
first and second transaction, email me at danamonroe@comcast.net.
My wife’s pumped at getting her silver VDP w/black interior!–

Alex,

First paragraph was OK, second was not. It’s a violation of Jag-Lovers rules
to advertise on the list. It is OK to have your web site with the other
information in your signature. Just don’t tell us you have things for sale.
Listers have to figure that out for themselves.

Just a warning for the first offense.
