[x300] ECU remapping

Has anyone had their ECU remapped? What sort of improvements
in power and torque does this release and what sort of costs
are involved? Just enquiring atm as I am completely skint
(even resorting to use the work vans to save money on fuel :frowning: ).ā€“

from memory, I believe the discussions on this end in the
conclusion that it wouldnā€™t add much. searching the
archives from posts from XJREngineer (Andy) might give you
some reading.

Also there was a guy on here a few years ago that races an
XJR IIRC. Maybe using ā€˜ā€˜raceā€™ā€™ in the search may find
something interesting, dunno for sure.

Cheers,ā€“

Mark,
You could fit one of my revised crank sensor brackets. That will
give you an extra 5 degrees of ignition advance everywhere, which
improves performance and fuel economy. See my posts
entitled ā€˜ā€˜Improving performance of AJ16 enginesā€™ā€™ for more details.
The feedback Iā€™ve had from the +50 people using my bracket has been
very positive.ā€“

Thanks for the replys.

Andy - Your bracket will be the next mod I do anyway. Just
need to raise the money

I was reading an article in a magazine about remapping which
is what got me thinking.ā€“

Hallo, could you answer to me for one question.
I have xj6 x308 .1996 year 4.0 with automatic transmissions and i have planning to put a swap with manual gearbox.
Are you still have a possibility remaping ecu from automatic to manual gearbox? The ECU number is LNA1410WCā€™311
Thank you very much and sorry for my english
With best regards, Dima

Hi Dimitri,
If your car is a 1996MY, then I assume it is a an X300 not an X308 (V8 engine), and is fitted with a 6 cylinder AJ16 engine. I can reprogramme these ECU. I charge Ā£450 for this service.

Regards,
Andy Stodart

Is there any other repairs you can make to a 1996 XJS ECU? I had a problem with mine where it would no longer read O2 sensors, so I sent it out for repair to a place in Florida.

It seems to read the O2 sensors but the LTFTs are out of whack, and The engine will stall if I donā€™t have the gas pedal depressed.

I tried resetting the ECU with my PDU but it no longer sees the VIN.

Iā€™m sorry but I donā€™t repair ECUs. I only reprogramme them. If you send me your failed ECU, I can reprogamme another one to the same specification for Ā£550 + shipping.

Regards,
Andy Stodart

Last question, can you change the VIN number? Obviously the VIN of the spare ECU is to my old carā€¦can you assign it the same VIN as my current car?

Thanks.

No, I canā€™t change the VIN. It is also possible that you will need to have a throttle adaption and lambda sensor orientation performed, if you swap ECUs. These should be possible if you have a PDU.
